%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% % % % % % CREATOR : NOTATOR : TIPS % % : PART I : % % ::::::::::: % % by % % % % John Carr % % 1991 % % % %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% First of all, this document may be of help to Creator / Notator users. Secondly: these tips are not intended to discriminate in any way the C-LAB SOFTWARE, HARDWARE company. For those of use's who would like to purchase EXPORT for utilizing those extra channels which are available under the B/C/D parameters and can't afford the over priced hardware read on. Depending on your usage? in most cases people need extra outs for sampler's, well if your lucky enough to have either a AKAI - S900, S-950, S-1000, S-1000PB, S-1100, S-1100PB look no further than the back of your trusty ST and you shall find an RS232 port which will allow you to hook up a RS232 lead from a ST straight into the back of one of the above mentioned sampler's. How do i do it ? : ================== Make sure your ST is turned off, hook up a RS-232 lead from your computer to the sampler, make sure both units are turned off. Turn both units on after you have connected the lead properly. Look at the sampler, go to the MIDI function button page thru to the control page, set the parameters so the control is by RS-232 set the BAUD rate at exactly ( 31,250 ) and hey presto! your on line with the RS-232 port from your ST. Now after you turn on your ST and run your version of CREATOR or NOTATOR, hopefully not the bugged version (3.0 or 3.1) you can then load a song etc, and then choose what port B/C/D you would like to send midi data out off. In my set up i use this function for drum's but the choice is yours. Again remember, if your samples a of poor quality, you will also get poor timing. Even though the above sounds logical, most people are receiving 40% of the sound quality of there samples when the shouldn't be. Use a proper editor to discard any dead air at the start of the samples, but whach out in case you kill off some of the attack. Well that was simple enough wasn't it ? No need for screw drivers, little black boxes or knowledge in electronics, next time we shall discuss what the known bugs are in what would have to be the biggest scandal in getting the most money out of registered user's of CREATOR / NOTATOR until then happy computing!
